Karil

Jedi Master of the Almas Academy

Description:

Karil (pronounced Car-ill) is a slender, muscular human with sandy blonde hair and blue eyes. Although he has a hair braid, it is thicker and a different style than those worn by Jedi Padawans. Karil appears to be in his early 20's.

He wears brown traveling robes in the fashion favored by the Jedi, along with combat gloves and a wrap-around cloak. Around his waist is a Jedi utility belt with the standard components, along with a few things Karil has added. He normally carries a lightsaber (the casing appears to be of black glass, making some of the internal components visible), a pocket secretary, a medical kit, a multichannel comlink, and a grappling spike launcher on the belt, along with a few extra storage pouches that are big enough to hold a single stun grenade each.

On missions where Karil needs to carry extra gear, he travels with a large Bantha-hide satchel over one shoulder. Normally the satchel carries two changes of clothes (including civilian garb) a Merr-Sonn Z2 stun baton, and a few glop grenades for immobilizing foes.

Background:

Karil talks little about his early years, other than to say he was taken in by a disciple of the Kervani order, a group of Force-using wanderers that seek spiritual enlightenment through travel and helping others. His master died shortly after they arrived on Cularin, leaving Karil to fend for himself. For a time, Karil worked as a cook. He quickly realized that his training in the Force had left him in a dangerous position - too well-trained to cast it aside, but not trained enough against the temptations of the Dark Side.

There were two options available to Karil - ask the Tarasin Force Adepts to take him in and teach him their ways, or apply to the Jedi Academy on Almas. Due to the reputation of the Jedi as guardians of peace and justice, he chose the latter. More than once, he has wondered whether he made the right choice. While most of the teachers at the Academy have been paragons of Jedi virtues in Karil's eyes, many of his fellow students have acted recklessly and even flirted with the Dark Side.

During his four years on Cularin, Karil has spent much of his free time with the Tarasin. His closest friend is Dalira, a Tarasin herbalist trained in the Force tradition of her people.

Personality and Beliefs:

Despite becoming a Jedi later in life, Karil has a very conservative outlook. He believes that only those who have been trained in the Force from a young age should be allowed to join the Order, and stricter standards should be set on all Jedi. He sees many Jedi as arrogant and reckless, and it is this perception that convinced him to petition Lanius for elevation to Jedi Master. Since achieving the rank of Master, Karil has spent most of his free time journeying with Padawans and Knights, in order to observe how they act outside the Academy.

When sent on missions, Karil focuses on both the objective, and the methods used to meet it. He does not believe the end justifies the means, and goes to great lengths to follow both the word and the spirit of the Jedi Code. Only a few things manage to annoy him - the most common of which is traveling with arrogant Jedi (particularly Jedi Knights and Masters). Even then, he does his best to control his emotions and provide a positive example.
