Ys Once there was a mighty empire. Now there are ruins. There is something wrong about the land. It isn't in the scant and twisted vegetation, or in the scavengers that roam. It is not in the wind that blows, nor the pale sun that shines above, but it is there. Here the dead rest uneasily. Ravens and rats, vultures and wild dogs, these animals seem to be the only inhabitants… yet something is moving. Something that is never there when you look at it. Snatches of sound can be heard, garishly out of place sounds, drinking songs, people laughing, children at play. Sounds that fade before they can be focused on or a location put to them. The spirits of the dead of Ys seem to want to invade the minds of those who visit. Unless a careful mind shield is maintained, the spirits will become visible in time. You can have a pleasant conversation with a spirits who believe themselves still alive and Ys still standing. The ghosts look whole and alive, and question your sanity. Then moments latter the ghost is gone… and it is you who wonder if you are going mad. Sleeping in Ys is something that should only be attempted within the protection of a mystic circle. People who have gone to Ys have vanished in the past with no trace. Biblographic Reference: Read Ray Bradbury's short story Night Meeting from The Martian Chronicles where an Earthman and a Martian argue over who is the ghost or out of their right time. That is how Ys feels. The Cursed Pattern of Ys The pattern of Ys appears to be a broken pattern similar to that of Kashfa or Begma, but all around the pattern, the psychic residue of death and pain radiate so strongly that even those without psychic sensitivity can feel it. The pattern can be walked, but if it offers any special powers, no one remains to tell of them. Walking the pattern of Ys seems to have one additional affect. The spirits become even more aggressive afterwards.
