Legends of Woodhill

What Has Gone Before:

Woodhill is a village of about 450 people, located on Faerun between the Southwood and the Greypeak Mountains. Roughly a score of years ago, the wizard Erakis retired from active adventuring, and constructed a wizard's tower in this isolated, forbidding portion of the Realms. To finance his research, Erakis began a lucrative business of creating various arcane items for wealthy buyers. In his spare time, he doted on his newborn daughter, Julianne.

As time went on, a small community formed near the base of the wizard's tower. Some were lured by the promise of sales to a wealthy and eccentric wizard, and some just wanted a new start. Whatever their reasons for coming to Woodhill, the occasional incursions of monsters and bands of evil humanoids united them in common cause.

Fifteen years ago, a small order of monks began construction of a monastery in the hills to the east. With the arrival of the Order of the Quiet Storm, Woodhill became relatively safe. Though Woodhill had occasional contact with trade caravans, for the most part it went ignored by the rest of Faerun. Ten years ago, one of the high ranking members of the monk order brought his granddaughter Jalarzi to train in the temple.

Four years ago, things changed. A small army of undead came to Woodhill, lead by a tiefling cleric. The village had been evacuated just in time, thanks to a timely warning from the monks. The army of undead destroyed the town, and then their leader came forward to make his demands. The tiefling claimed to be a child of the god Bhaal, and demanded that the woman named Jalarzi be turned over to him. The army was confronted in the final battle by the monks, the villagers, Erakis, Julianne, Jalarzi, and several of their friends. During the battle, Jalarzi revealed that she was a chosen of Torm, and was the one to deliver the final blow against the tiefling.

Since that epic battle, Woodhill has slowly rebuilt itself. Erakis constructed a new tower, and has just finished a magical portal connecting Woodhill to several major cities in Faerun. Julianne attempted to gain more control of her sorcerous abilities by studying under her father, but spends most of her time working as a scribe and mapmaker. Jalarzi now studies directly under her grandfather, the new Grandmaster of her order. With any luck, Woodhill will fade into obscurity, and life will return to normal.
