Character Background:
Guinevere grew up in a small farming community situated between the Dragon’s Crown and the small town of Hatheril. This community, originally built only for itself and Hatheril, struggled to maintain supply lines to the war front in Cyre while keeping itself and the nearby town of Hatheril supplied with basic necessities.

As the youngest of thirteen children, Guinevere developed a talent for working around obstacles to get what she wanted. When she couldn't get it directly, she negotiated for it. If she couldn't negotiate, she fought (which often didn't work, since she was the smallest child). When she couldn't fight for it, she made it. The army caravans were a frequent attraction for Guinevere, as she could hear news and gain new skills by spending time with the people in them. By the time Guinevere joined the army at age 14, she was well versed in Brelin propaganda concerning the war, and had more than a nodding acquaintance with martial skills.

After her training, Guinevere was sent to the Breland-Cyre border, where the harsh reality of war began to sink in. At the end of her first year of service in the army, her attitude towards the war had changed completely. No longer was it a just cause in her eyes, as she saw the remnants of villages destroyed in a pointless struggle over territory. Though she tried to keep her opinions to herself, they were eventually noticed by her unit commander, who made a point of assigning her to noncombat duties.

At age 17, Guinevere was reassigned to the front lines in Cyre due to a manpower shortage. There she distinguished herself in an attack against a Karrnathi raiding party, delivering the killing blow against the unit's undead lieutenant. Her attitude toward the war did not change; however, the battle allowed her to direct her sword arm toward a more palatable cause - the fight against true evil. That night, Guinevere had her first vision of the Silver Flame, standing alone in a vast field of darkness and striking against the evil hidden there.

Her new unit commander, impressed with her talents, assigned her to a special group within the unit, tasked to take on challenges where a larger force would be impractical. Her unit is primarily responsible with forcing a Karrnathi withdrawal from the area, after an attack upon the enemy's main supply caravan resulted in the capture of the wagons and the enemy necromancer.

Guinevere's initial contact with others followers of the Flame was less than ideal, as her unit stumbled upon the aftermath of a massacre of Cyran commoners by Thrane troops. Her trust in the organization was somewhat reclaimed, however, when the surviving Thrane chaplain described his efforts to oppose the massacre. The chaplain was recovered by Guinevere's unit and, during the years after the war, became her first worldly mentor in the ways of the Church.
