Character Background:
"I remember back when this whole stupid war began. It seemed like a good way for an able young dwarf
to make a right proper name for himself and probably earn some good riches in the process."
All Arven Gilderall ever wanted was to go off to the war and come back a hero.
Instead he bounced around from backwater post to backwater post until he was almost too old to make a difference.
As time progressed and the war dragged on, the Breland unit in which he was enlisted was finally reassigned to
the battlefront. The day they assessed the soldiers for frontline assignments is one that will stick with him until
the end of his days.
Arven knew he had started to lose a step on the younger recruits, but still figured he had what it took to show
up the squirts, and prove he was as good as any of those newfangled `Warforged'. Alone, he squared off against
a new Warforged named Stang.
It was a contest he would have won had he been in his prime. Unfortunately, that was a number of years ago; and
he took a sound beating, which left the assessor less than impressed. So disgraced was he, that he was once more
reassigned to a support role upkeeping the growing ranks of the army's Warforged. Despite his obvious disdain for
the work, it was something he showed talent for, and Arven soon came to the notice of one of the House Cannith
overseers.
>
This marked a turning point for Arven. From his mentor, he came to learn many of the tricks and techniques of the
Artificer's craft. Something that soon gained him the position he'd longed for on the battlefield. Even if it was
just in a supporting role, he was able to make a difference on the battlefield.
>
It is there that he served until the Day of Mourning, and the war's end.
After the war, Arven found few of the riches and glory that he had expected when he enlisted, for the war had taken
such a toll that many people simply wanted to forget it and rebuild their lives. Seeing an opportunity to ply his
craft, Arven moved to Sharn, where he opened up a small but flourishing trade as a smith and handyman of sorts.
