Dawn Cameron-Dick is a self-taught quilter who has been making quilts for over 30 years. She has been a quilting teacher and lecturer for the last 26 years and was voted Runner-up UK Teacher of the Year in 1999.

A very traditional quilter, Dawn uses modern products to produce her "signature" technique, Invisible Machine Appliqué, which is done on a machine, but produces perfect, hand-done-looking appliqué. Her book on this technique was released in 2000. A DVD based on the book is also available. You can order from Dawn direct via e-mail and the autographed books will be sent with an invoice, or you can order on line from Quilt Direct. Her first book on the technique was released in 2000, sold over 25,000 copies and is still a strong seller!  The second book, a continuation of the technique, was released 2004 and was again a hit with all levels of quilters who enjoy her friendly, casual style."

Wouldn't you love some more Free Time to quilt?

Don't you wish you could buy time in a bottle? Then you could get all those dreams turned into quilts and still have time for your family & friends! Well, I am sorry to disappoint you but that is not currently possible! What I can offer you is a fun, easy way to SAVE time without compromising on the quality of the work you do. Interested? I thought so!

In 1971, when I began my first quilt, I learned every lesson the hard way...by trial and error. Classes were as scarce as hens teeth and the rotary cutter was still thought of as an office supply! So I improvised and over time, founds lots of wonderful ways to get more quilting done and also to be happier with the end result.

When I began teaching I found that my students loved these tips and so I constantly strove to find more. BUT, they had to be logical, easy to produce and provide as good, if not better, results than the method it replaced.

And so it was with Invisible Machine Appliqué. I loved hand appliqué but generally found that my students were put off by the amount of time it took. They loved the "gain" but hated the "pain". Isn't life too short to be doing things you don't love?!

After several months of experimentation I'd put together the basics of a technique that could give the look of hand work (turned edges and a soft feel) but was done entirely on even the most basic of machines.

Some of these ideas had been floating around, in one form or another, for some time but finally putting them all together my way made IMA an instant hit (was it Mel Gibson who said he'd spent 30 years becoming an overnight success?).

I've been fortunate enough to have been invited to teach in the US, UK (where I now call home), Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Holland, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Ireland and Italy. IMA has world wide appeal! I am always more than ready to pack up a go anywhere students want to have fun and learn. My aim is to make my classes as enjoyable as I can and still give each and every student individual attention and support.

So, read the book, book a class or stop by for a chat at the Festival of Quilts. Whatever your groups specific needs I am willing to tailor make a workshop to fit you. Write or ring for a chat. The only thing you shouldn't do is miss this opportunity! I promise you are going to love the workshop!
