Invisible Machine Appliqué - Supply List

  • Your sewing machine - Please bring your BEST machine. Age makes no difference! The wee ones some people bring for classes just do not perform well. The machine should have FULLY adjustable WIDTH & LENGTH. It is also a good idea to bring your instruction book and you foot control!
  • An open toe appliqué foot or a clear appliqué foot - I will have several generic ones available in class if you cannot find one for your machine. For the Bernina you need a number 20 foot.
  • YLI Invisible Nylon Thread - If I am not teaching in a shop, I will bring a supply of this to class if you cannot locate it.
  • 100% cotton sewing thread - in a neutral colour.
  • Pins, pencils and scissors
  • If you possess a little iron & portable ironing board ask the class organizer if you may bring it... this will help reduce the time you stand waiting to press a seam!
Fabric Requirements
  • 10" x 10" square of plain, dark cotton fabric
  • Fat quarter of plain calico or a pale solid colour
  • Fat quarter of a small, medium to dark fabric print
Please do not labour over your fabric choices too much! We are sewing sample pieces and not actually making a finished project. Why not use up something you’ve grown tired of? Then you won’t feel guilty going out and buying just a bit more!

We will be making and drafting several different blocks. Whilst none of them are intended to become a finished project they are all learning pieces which will teach you the skills necessary to incorporate Paper Piecing into your quiltmaking. As such it is hard to give you exact amounts of fabric to bring.
